Whole grains from carefully tended fields, ground freshly into flour.
Farmers will tell you that soil is their medium and their foundation. Everything begins with how we care for it.
Farmer Ground Flour is rooted in that care—for the soil, for the grain, and for the people we feed. We grow and mill a variety of organic grains, producing flour that reflects the fertility of our region. Food doesn’t come from a box or a bag. It comes from somewhere, from someone.
The mill is a bridge to where and how this grain was grown.
Stone Ground Flour - Milled in New York State
From Regenerative Organic Grains
We designed our mill to preserve the integrity of the whole grain, keeping the bran, germ, and endosperm together. That integrity becomes flavor and complexity in our flour, and ultimately in your bread, pancakes, and pastries. The result is that your baked goods have character and a depth of flavor most people have never experienced with flour.
We care about supporting local farmers and returning grain production back to the Northeast.
NY used to grow a lot of wheat, and we’re thrilled to say that the grain still likes it here! We don’t need to outsource this work.
We are committed to the growth of a regional grain economy— through farming, milling, baking, and listening.
We make a variety of stone ground flours for the artisan baker
Just as our bodies require diversity in our diets, farms require diversity in their fields. This keeps the land resilient. When you bake with a variety of grains from the same place, you support sustainable farming. Try substituting a little bit of ancient grain flour into a recipe you already know well. Experience the changes in texture and flavor. Experimenting makes baking fun!
Cross Pollinating Ideas Between Farmers, Millers, and Bakers
So much of our commodity food system is reliant on people talking to numbers. We prefer a community focused food system —to be in real conversation with the bakers and farmers we work with. We break bread together and share our experiences.
